  • Hotel Franziskaner: Quiet and no car needed

Hotel Franziskaner is a small hotel with a friendly familiar touch. The rooms are small, but pleasant and equipped with everything you need for a relaxed stay. The spacier rooms look down on the little - and quiet! - Franziskanerplatz, from the the other rooms you look down on the little garden of the neighbouring Franziscan monastery (very quiet!), you look up to the spire of the university church, and in the distance you can even see the "Käppele", the famous baroque pilgrimage church. Nearly all sights of Würzburg are in walking distance: 10 min. to the Residence with the great Tintoretto frescoes above the baroque staircase, 10 min. to the Dom (bishops church), 10 min. to the famous old Mainbrücke (bridge across the Main river) with its baroque stone statues and the view up to the impressive old fortress of the bishops, 15 min. to Juliusspital and Bürgerspital where you can test and enjoy the delicious Franconian wines. The hotel has no parking facilities, but a public parking house is just round the corner and the fee for hotel guests there is 10,00€ for 24 hours When again in Würzburg we will choose this hotel again.

  • Chloe at five Pine: Chloe restaurant

Apparently a lot of people like junk food - and get full and fat. But fortunately there is an increasing number of people who like good and healthy food - and thank God there are chefs who know the art of cooking. Such a chef is Jerry Phaisavath, born in Laos, who learned and practised his profession in San Francisco. In January 2009 he moved with his wife Elaine Larson to Sisters where they run their restaurant "Chloe at Five Pine". They offer French/American cuisine which is really worth to try and taste. My wife had a perfect "Roasted Muscovy Duck Breast" ($21) and I enjoyed a "New York Steak Bearnaise"($22) - one of the best steaks I can remember. The fact that "Chloe" is busy for lunch as well for dinner indicates that Mr Phaisavath's art is well estimated in the Sisters region. The designer cutlery is a bit unusual and you have to get used to it. The linen napkins are black - not my color of choice for a meal I really enjoyed.
