Interpretation at Portland Women's Forum

Portland Women's Forum State Scenic Viewpoint, NE Rooster Rock Road, Corbett, Oregon, United States

There are two interpretive signs at Portland Women's Forum State Scenic Viewpoint. One discusses the "view and the vision" - from this vantage point, the Multnomah County Commission agreed to fund construction of the Historic Columbia River Highway and hire Samuel C. Lancaster as the consulting engineer. Lancaster first looked for the "beauty spots" and found a way to take people to those spots.
The second sign explains the Ice Age Floods (also know as the Missoula Floods or the Bretz floods). Huge walls of water were released by failing ice dams, releasing the water from glacial Lake Missoula. Water came down the Columbia River, overtopping Crown Point - over 700 feet tall.
Several other plaques are located at this site

Archery at Mountain View Farms

Mountain View Farms 3-D Archery Range, 96472 Northlake Lane, Lakeside, Oregon, United States

Loved it! Mountain View Farms is a large wilderness area on the south coast of Oregon. There are three target trails...they are very well groomed and create a virtual hunting adventure. All of the target animals represent full size local wildlife, with a few just for fun. They hold several fun events throughout the year. Many shooters of all styles are welcome. The range is open to the Public and is open year round from dawn to dark. Camping is available on the farm and is free. There are hotel, motels and other campgrounds nearby. Prices are good and they do have rentals for the Practice Range

worth it

Andina, 1314 NW Glisan St, Portland, Oregon, United States

Really great food. The quinoa cannolis with passion fruit--just unbelievable! The seviche? Ah, I've had better, but not many places. The pork entree most inventive. And when the owner from Peru came to the table to be sure we liked everything? OK, they got me!

I know I mostly get excited about historical things, but this was worth tellling you all about.

Wine Depot Update - Great wine shop & friendly staff!

Wine Depot and Deli, 300 2nd Avenue SW, Albany, Oregon, United States

I am happy to report that my first experience with the staff at Wine Depot (reported earlier) appears to have been an anomaly! I've been to the depot countless times since my first visit and the staff have always been super friendly and helpful.

Lunch tip: If you love chicken-salad sandwiches, be sure and order it here (on a croissant); you won't be disappointed in the least bit.

Best Little Coffee & Dessert Shop in Albany/Corvallis

Sidekicks Gourmet Desserts & Espresso, 832 Lyons St. S, Albany, Oregon, United States

One of my favorite things to do when we lived in Corvallis was to to make weekly sojourns to Sidekicks, arguably the best place for coffee (Alan Bros) and dessert in the Corvallis/Albany area.

Located by the railroad station near downtown, this hidden gem was on my way to work and served as a a wonderful respite for coffee & bagels, decadent sandwiches, soups, amazing home baked pastries and cakes.

Finally, the friendly and bubbly staff and the inviting cozy dining room decorated with stained glass, old railroad art and old-fashioned booths makes Sidekicks a worthy stop if you're in the area.
