Oregon - Where Past is Present. Experience 15,000 years of Oregon cultural history and 200 million years of geology. Tuesday - Sunday, 11 a.m. - 5 p.m. Tours available. General admission $3.
The Museum of Natural and Cultural History is free to staff, faculty, and students of the University of Oregon. Even if you don't fall into this category, it is well worth the low $3 admission charge. Dioramas depict people in Oregon during each of the four seasons at various epochs in the past. The exhibits describe the way the natives harnessed the power and bounty of the Columbia RIver, lived off of the land in the Willamette Valley, and fished for thousands of years along the Oregon Coast. The museum also has rotating special exhibits, which currently include the art of catching the big fish, and photos by a local photographer of Mt. Pisgah, a local natural area, in its various seasons. There's also a hands-on "Think like a Scientist" area for the kids.
