Recycled Art

Anchoring the south end of Riverfront Park is Eco Earth—a stainless steel orb that, thanks once again to the spirit of volunteerism in Salem’s local art community, has been turned into quite the work of art. The 25-foot tall sphere was formerly a storage tank for acid used in papermaking (talk about recycling!). Eco Earth’s 82.5-foot circumference is now covered in over 86,000 glittering tiles representing people, places, and animals from across the planet.
