A.C. Gilbert's Discovery Village is the premier childrens museum in the Pacific Northwest. All exhibits are hands-on with an emphasis on arts, sciences and humanities.
If you’re visiting Salem's Riverfront Park with children, skip over to A.C. Gilbert’s Discovery Village on the north end of the Park. Three Victorian homes collectively serve as an interactive museum where kids build, invent, play, and generally have hands-on fun while unsuspectingly using math and science. Best known for having created the Erector Set, chemistry sets, and Mysto Magic sets, native Oregonian and Olympic pole-vaulting gold medalist A.C. Gilbert, the Village’s namesake, believed that "playing is essential to learning." Both kids and adults will love the bubble room, frozen shadow room, and the dinosaur exhibits. The world’s largest Erector Set is actually a playground in the Village’s fenced backyard.
