Learn all about fire fighting and examine six antique fire trucks, several of which have been fully restored. Located in the historic former fire station building in downtown La Grande.
The Eastern Oregon Fire Museum is located in a 100-year-old former fire station right in the heart of La Grande's downtown historic district. There are five wonderful vintage fire trucks, three of which have been fully restored to all of their shiny red glory! There are old photographs of big fires in the town and area, lots of antique firefighting equipment and clothing. Some signs talk about the history of the fire department and make you think about how hard it was to fight a huge fire without running water, electricity or telephones. The museum doesn't take long to enjoy, but it is well worth a stop. It is adjacent to the visitor center, where you can find all kinds of information about things to see and do, and places to stay, eat and shop. The staff is very knowledgeable. The downtown has lots of fun specialty shops and restaurants, too.
