Powell's City of Books is a book lover's paradise, the largest used and new bookstore in the world. Located in downtown Portland, Oregon and occupying an entire city block, the City stocks more than a million new and used books. Nine color coded rooms house over 3,500 different sections, offering something for every interest, including an incredible selection of out-of-print and hard-to-find titles.
Be sure to grab a map – the store takes up an entire city block and it’s easy to get lost among 1 million books.

Powell's Rocks!
This was a great store. The selection is amazing, especially in the Rare Books Room. The selection is amazing. I think there were only a few random books that they did not have in stock.
You can truly go in there and wander around for hours on end without seeing the same aisle twice. If you're an avid book person, you must visit Powell's before you leave Portland.

It's simply the best place to buy books
I used to go to the Powell's in Chicago when I lived there and I had no idea that it was modeled after the mother ship. Be sure to check the other off site locations nearby which specialize in technical books and home and gardening.

This is the Valhalla of book stores. They have everything - or at least it seems so. Browsing can be a day long event.
Cookbooks were especially wonderful.
