Never twice the same, the Portland Classical Chinese Garden is an authentically built Ming Dynasty scholar's garden with winding walkways, bridged lake and open pavilions framed by an exquisite landscape of stone, water, poetry, architecture and plants native to China. Enjoy tranquility and harmony while sipping tea at the Tao of Tea inside this all seasons garden.
When in Portland it's worth a day trip towards Salem. In Silverton, at the Oregon Garden, is the Gordon House (Frank Lloyd Wright) and nearby is the Library at Mount Angel Abbey (Alvar Aalto). Both are worth seeing and they're only an hour away. Call first, you need a reservation for a guided tour at the house..the library is free to wander around.

The Chinese and Japanese Gardens in Portland are obvious places to see. Japanese gardens can be found in botanical gardens across the country but Chinese gardens are not as prevalent. It's seems even more unusual to find both types of gardens in a single city though and it's worth a visit to both.

It is as if you traveled to another place in time and culture and right in the middle of the city. The architecture is exquisite and there are wonderful smelling plants. Teahouse is like in China where you can enjoy the scenery alone or be with friends. Then the next time you visit, it is different. Amazing and unique, truly never twice the same as the Garden promotes. Take the tour because I learned that everything has dual meanings and plays on all your senses. The design is very intentional, very harmonious and inspiring.
