Portland Japanese Garden

Nestled in the scenic west hills of Portland, the Portland Japanese Garden is a haven of tranquil beauty which has been proclaimed one the most authentic Japanese gardens outside of Japan. Encompassing five and one-half acres and five separate garden styles, the Garden includes an authentic Japanese Tea House, meandering streams, intimate walkways, and an unsurpassed view of Mt. Hood.

A Must See

My husband and I went to Portland in January and were not sure what the garden would look like. We were pleasantly surprised. It rained most of our trip, but the day we went to the garden, the sun came our and the gardens looked like I would've imagined them to look in summer (we are from Wisconsin so I might have different expectations). They were so lucious and beautiful. The zen gardens were so peaceful. We loved the sculptures and trees. I would definatly reccomend this place to anyone! Also, the trees and views from the ride/walk up to the garden are amazing.

Beautiful views of the garden and the city

Even in the February cold this is a must see on a trip to Portland. Not everything will be in bloom, but it's still amazing to see such great foliage in the middle of a city like this. Also as you walk behind the main building in the center of the garden, you get excellent views of the city and Mt. Hood on clear days. I would also recommend checking their website to see what events are on. It's easy to take a bus to and form the garden. I took the Max to the Portland Zoo and then hiked from there, which made for a great walk.
