Founded in 1944 and one of the nation's top ten science museums, the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry is a world-class tourist attraction and educational resource that puts the 'WOW!' in science for the kid in each of us.
OMSI is always number one on my family's list. The exhibits are entertaining for both adults and kids. There are always new exhibits to check out. The cafe has a fairly large, healthy, and cheap selection, so feel free to hang out there the entire day.

We live in Springfield, OR, and over the years our family has made countless day trips to Portland... and OMSI has been included in many of them. OMSI offers unique exhibits, some of which are traveling exhibits such as "Body Worlds 3," but many of their permanent exhibits are well worth seeing more than once. One of my personal favorites is the "Beginning the Journey" exhibit, which features the different stages of human fetal development through nine months of pregnancy. In addition to the exhibits, we usually see an Omnimax movie while we're there, and for anyone who has never been to an Omnimax theater (it is different than an Imax) I would highly recommend it! They also have a great gift shop featuring lots of toys and educational items for anyone who loves science in all its forms.
