The true end of the Oregon Trail

An interactive museum focusing on the journey the intrepid pioneers endured while traveling more than 2,100 miles to settle the West. With hands-on interactive activities, living historians and the digital film experience "Bound for Oregon," it's a great place to learn about the epic migration and important period of American history. The museum is located on Abernethy Green in Oregon City - the true end of the Oregon Trail.

End of the Oregon Trail historic site

Oregon City is the federal "End of the Oregon Trail" because all the pioneers had to register their land claims there in the 1840s. The Interpretive Center is located where many pioneers camped at the end of their journey. Today it's right off Exit 10. You can't tell from the outside but the Center boasts changing exhibits shared with the Museum of the Oregon Territory at the other end of town. The interpreters in 19th century attire tell stories and show how things were 160 years ago. The Center boasts many activities for kids, and interesting things for adults. Particularly during the summer. A cool "provisioner's depot" shows what a business catering to early pioneers might have looked like, and you can see and touch many items. The digital story-Bound for Oregon- features real pioneers, native Americans, and a ghostly Dr. McLoughlin. You get in with the Historic Oregon City Pass-it includes admission to other sites and, in the summer, has discounts for the riverboat, restaurants, and other activities.
