Call for hours and fares. This historic trolley runs between Lake Oswego and Portland. Enjoy a scenic ride along the river on antique trollys through a tunnel, over high trestles & through parks. May-October.
The Willamette Shore Trolley runs along the scenic Willamette River between Lake Oswego and Bancroft St. in Portland, taking 40 minutes to travel the 6 miles. The train engineer does stop along the way to tell the history and stories of the trolley line.
Overall, it was a fun way to view the waterfront, but I had wished the people at the ticket counter had warned me that there was a kids group aboard. Imagine my face when I climbed on and it was full of about 30 kids, I would say in the 7-10 age group. Along with the chaperons and a few other guests, the train was about maxed out. Thanks to the gentleman that shared a seat!
There was too much noise to hear all of the stories and history that were being told, so the ride into Portland wasn't as enjoyable as the ride back (minus large group of kids, of course). I wish I had known, I would have taken a different trip.
You can either stay on the trolley for a ride back to your starting point, or get off and explore Lake Oswego or SW Portland.
