Open Monday-Saturday 6:45am-7pm and Sunday 11am-7pm. Take a ride to the top of the only outdoor municipal elevator in the United States for a scenic view of Oregon City. The upper level is complemented by murals of historic Oregon City.
A public arts project has renovated the entire interior of the famous Oregon City Municipal Elevator. The spaceshiplike structure perched at the edge of the Bluff has become a dynamic and unique historical and artistic experience. Michael Asbil, an artist from the East Coast transformed over a hundred historic and contemporary photographs into lenticular images in bands around the inside of the viewing platform and entry tunnel. What's a lenticular photo? It's a photo which combines two or three images in the same way the little prize in the Cracker Jack box did: if you tilt the image back and forth the images contained therein reveal themselves and hide. So these images of Willamette Falls, old buildings, tugboats, factory workers, tribal people, street scenes dance across the landscape.. It's a unique and ever changing scene. While you're in Oregon City, check out a place to eat or have coffee and watch the street life. This is not your grandfather's Oregon City.
