Our stop this time was the Sacred Widmer Brewery/Pub. Again I’d like to make clear that we are in no way real connoisseur but would just like to offer an opinion to all of you next time you next time you feel adventurous and want to go somewhere you haven’t been yet. So here it goes! (remember our new rating scale 5 is average, walking out with no significant impact on opinion.)
Atmosphere: 6/10 I really didn’t notice the atmosphere, and had to force myself to look around just for the sake of this article. I’m sure it would have been more cool to go on their free tours, so if you have the time why not? It’d up the atmosphere score a lot if we were able to go. Other then that there was a lot of German paraphernalia, which made me smile due to my previous experiences in Germany, it was a nice restaurant setting. It looked as though it was somewhat of an open kitchen which was pretty cool. Mind you this WAS a Tuesday night at 9 pm, last time we tried to go on Saturday night, there was an hour wait, and so with more people the atmosphere might have been a lot better.
Service: 6.5/10 The service wasn’t too mentionable…really run of the mill type of service, what disappointed me the most is that the beer sampler we had really didn’t have labels for the seasonal beers, so I really didn’t remember what I was drinking after the waitress told me. It would seem smart to label the seasonals…because people don’t get to drink those as often like their heff, which most people can tell from taste. The only thing that brings it up from a 5 is the server splitting up our check 4 ways with us just telling him what we had, and it was all done correctly. That was pretty impressive, no writing names on the receipt.
Food: 9/10 MAN is their food list EXTENSIVE! I had the bbq pulled pork sandwich just like from Bridgeport. The pork seemed a lot more substantial which was good, and I subbed my salad for garlic mashed potatoes, which they ran out of and gave me potato pancakes….BEST SUB EVER! Only downside is I would have liked to have been asked to sub it instead of just giving it to me. But DAMN these things were like heaven in my mouth, crispy fried outside and soft garlic mash potato-ey inside. Johns sausage taster was pretty damn good too. The food menu has a variety of things which is all available from their website and definitely have a german inspiration with such items as schnitzels and brauts. Soups, salads, entrees, pasta, pizza, sandwiches, and burgers. Expect to spend anywhere from $9-$20 a dish including tip depending if u want a pizza or salmon.
Beer: 7/10, I had the sampler and tried all the seasonal stuff, yes I know its widmer, but I now also know why its seasonal, I couldn’t drink a 6 pack of most of this stuff. The tastes weren’t bad, they were just too unique. Again I don’t know any of the names, cept the wine like one…wasn’t that good, but I did find the crimson wheat to be very tasty. Its like a mix between heff and drop top; and really is the one that brings beer up from a 5 to a 7. The IPA isn’t bad either.
With the new rating system, we can give better ratings, remember 5 is average, walk out of there as if it was any other restaurant, no impression made overall Widmer is a must for any beer enthusiast because it is Widmer. Even if u don’t drink the menu has a very German inspiration which is nice to be able to order a schnitzel…but for 13 bucks…I’ll think about it.
