The great thing about Rogue (besides their stellar beer) is that even though it's a very happening spot, it manages to be laid-back and fly under the radar of the see-and-be-seen crowd. The service is slow, but uber-friendly. The food is hearty but unembellished. The crowd is rowdy but unpretentious. Pretty much perfect spot to relax and have a cold one.

I've enjoyed Rogue Beers and have been a supporter for many years. When I had the opportunity to relocate to this area, I paid this establishment a prompt visit.
I came during the lunch hour and there was an empty space at the bar. The surroundings and atmosphere were pleasant for a pub setting.
The service was just okay. The barkeep must have been having a bad day. He was rather slow to come and take my order while sitting at an empty bar. The only time he was prompt was to interrupt my cell call (which is band at the bar, understandable) regardless of the fact that I was being quiet and respectful of the other couple seated across the room.
The food was okay
The burger fries and two pints cost me nearly $20. A little pricey for a lunch i'd say. Newport is a much better establishment with friendly and knowledgeable staff
In Portland, Rogue wants to have an image of being "cool" and yet serve the champagne crowd.

Rogue knows a good time and it starts with their delicious beer. If you join the Rogue Nation, once you have their membership card you will receive a free YARD of beer on your birthday. That is correct a yard, as in three feet. Even if it isn't your birthday, Rogue is a great place to celebrate someone or something, the bartenders are helpful and patient. It can be overwhelming to choose when there are so many options and if you get perplexed ask for assistance- it will be expertly granted. I told the bartender what I look for in a beer and without hesitation he poured eactly what I did not know I wanted and thus I found my new favorite beer- the hazelnut brown. However if it is tough to commit to just one, go for the sampler.
