Named after Don Bruno de Heceta, a Spanish explorer, Heceta Head lighthouse is located north of Florence. This 56-foot tower was first lit in 1894. A half-mile hike will lead visitors to this lighthouse, in addition to seabird nesting sites and nearby Bed and Breakfasts located in the assistant keeper's home. Editor's Tip: The short 1/2 mile hike to the top of the lighhouse from the parking lot is well worth the effort. The spectacular view makes it a great place to share a kiss or for a picnic. In addition, the former keeper's residence located adjacent to the lighthouse functions as a bed & breakfast!
This B&B is an incredible setting. The gourmet breakfast is amazing (they grow their own fresh herbs on site), the house is absolutely charming and there is even a lighthearted spirit rumored to roam the house.
I spent two nights (Friday and Saturday) and it was a wonderful treat. My only regret is that I went by myself - it is a truly romantic setting and would be perfect for a quick getaway or an anniversary.
A free tour of the lighthouse is included, and the short walk to the lighthouse at night is worth the ambiance of standing under the revolving light at night.

The best view of Heceta Head lighthouse can be found at the Hwy 101 pull-off, approximately 1 mile south. This spot is between the lighthouse and the Sea Lion caves and I saw many seals/sea lions while there taking pictures of the lighthouse. This is a popular spot for those traveling the coast.

There's quite a bit to do here: walk along the beach, explore tide pools, and take the trail up to the Light Keeper's house & Heceta Head Lighthouse. There's a small day-use fee of $3/car but it's well worth it.
