Heceta Head Lighthouse

Named after Don Bruno de Heceta, a Spanish explorer, Heceta Head lighthouse is located north of Florence. This 56-foot tower was first lit in 1894. A half-mile hike will lead visitors to this lighthouse, in addition to seabird nesting sites and nearby Bed and Breakfasts located in the assistant keeper's home. Editor's Tip: The short 1/2 mile hike to the top of the lighhouse from the parking lot is well worth the effort. The spectacular view makes it a great place to share a kiss or for a picnic. In addition, the former keeper's residence located adjacent to the lighthouse functions as a bed & breakfast!

Heceta Head Viewpoint, 1 mile south of lighthouse

Heceta_head_1_small

The best view of Heceta Head lighthouse can be found at the Hwy 101 pull-off, approximately 1 mile south. This spot is between the lighthouse and the Sea Lion caves and I saw many seals/sea lions while there taking pictures of the lighthouse. This is a popular spot for those traveling the coast.

The most-recognized lighthouse along the coast

Heceta_head_1_small

There's quite a bit to do here: walk along the beach, explore tide pools, and take the trail up to the Light Keeper's house & Heceta Head Lighthouse. There's a small day-use fee of $3/car but it's well worth it.

Plan A Picnic!

Tidepools, lighthouse, keeper's house, creek, scenery - this is a favorite spot to spend an afternoon. The shells and sealife in the tidepools change with the season and you might find starfish today where you found tiny seashells before. Also, the Keeper's House is a B&B, great place for a wedding too!
