One of the best known - and best visible - landmarks of Munich are the "Frauentuerme" (towers of our Lady; see also on goseemunich "Frauenkirche"). These domed twin towers with their green helmets are part of "Frauenkirche" (also called "Dom") which is the biggest church in town (and the seat of the catholic archbishop). This brick church was built nearly 550 years ago. The towers are 100 and 99 m high (guess which is the higher one). You can go up one tower by an elevator; bella vista!

Build from 1468 to 1488 the Frauenkirche today still dominates the Munich skyline (and will continue to do so as a law prohibits building anything in downtown that are higher than the cathedral). With room for more than 20,000 people inside this is one of the largest churches in Germany. When you visit make sure to have a look at the Devil's Footstep. Legend has it that the devil stomped his foot leaving a footprint in the ground when he realized that from the spot he stood at none of the windows could be seen. The south tower can be ascended and offers a panoramic view of Munich and the Alps. Especailly worth it when you have a clear day!
