I must say that I have not been on this tour. However, I have read about the history of Portland's Shanghai tunnels (E Kimbark MacColl's works on Portland history) and my sense is these tours are not rooted in real historic facts. The truth is that there were such tunnels but you won't get to visit them on this tour. One of the tricks of the shanghai crowd, me Irish ancestors, was to put the deceased on board ships...the same fate should await anyone who passes themselves off as experts on our history for a cheap buck.

Guide reeked of alchohol
What a waste of money. We spent the whole time in a dusty crammed basement (we never saw any tunnels) while the unkempt drunk tour guide mostly make up stories about ghosts, prostitution, and sailors. He even changed his stories along the way - first it was 1,500 men shanghaiied and then it was 3,500 men shanghaiied. Not recommended.
