You probably would never have guesses that the world's smallest park is located in Portland. It is tricky to find (its size or lack thereof being part of the problem). The park coves an area of 452 square inches ( one third of a square meter) and was "invented" by a newspaper columnist whose office overlooked a spot where a telefone pole was removed. The journalist started writing about the "park" and its made-up leprechauns as well as about the life that was going on in the park in his columns. On St. Patricks's Day in 1976 the city made th park a reality be declaring the area a city park. Since then many legends about the park and what happened in it have been told including stories about weddings that took place in - or better on - the park (must have been a small wedding party). Mill Ends Park is located on Naito Parkway at the corner of SW Taylor St. (in 2006 the park was moved for a short time due to construction to a location close by).
