Perhaps best known for their friendly neighborhood pubs and restaurants, McMenamins also offers guests to the Pacific Northwest a selection of six beautiful historic hotels where attention to history, detail and fun abounds. From a former elementary school to a county poor farm to a Masonic lodge and more, McMenamins offers whimsical, unique and affordable lodging. Enjoy onsite pubs, restaurants, movie theaters, soaking pools, small bars and more when you stay with McMenamins.
Don’t let the front steps deceive you. McMenamin’s Kennedy School is very wheel friendly. There are plenty of ADA parking spaces and entrance in back. Adapted from a grade school and rescued from demolition, McMenamins successfully kept the schools historicity while creating a facility that is almost completely accessible. Out of the 35 rooms, 5 are ADA accessible. Guestrooms have been fasioned from existing classrooms. Each room is half the size of a classroom which means there’s plenty of moving space and rooms are outfitted with original chalkboards and cloakrooms, and private baths with roll-in showers.
Check-in here and you really will not want to leave. Amenities include a full service restaurant w/courtyard, 5 separate and intimate bars, gymnasium and theatre providing movies, lectures and live music. Did I mention the craft brews are among the most fabulous in the region.

Drink in the hallways and sleep in the classrooms at Kennedy School, a former elementary school tranformed into a quirky urban resort by McMenamins. This place is so fun and nostalgic, with bars tucked into the littlest classrooms and hallways that will bring back fond memories of grade school. The converted classroom acommodations are comfortable and cozy, and the courtyard restaurant, auditorium movie theater and heated soaking pool provide plenty of onsite entertainment -- in case the house-brewed beers and nearby Alberta Street shops, restaurants and galleries aren't enough.

My friends and I loved this hotel. The rooms are modified classrooms, so my room had blackboard on two walls and my friends had the old kids' coat closet in the back. The rooms were very roomy, with nice high ceilings. No TV. One of the great amenities is the soaking pool - warm enough to enjoy outdoors even in January. The hotel isn't downtown, but it took us only ten or fifteen minutes to get there by car. It is very close to Alberta Street, which has block after block of cute stores, coffee shops and restaurants. It is also very convenient for the airport.
The decor of the rooms and common areas is cute and eclectic. The hotel also has a movie theater, which we did not take advantage of, because we were uninterested in the movie (Role Models). You are allowed to bring food and bev into the theater, which sounds good.
We ate breakfast in the restaurant twice and really enjoyed the bacon cheddar scramble. Good coffee, too.
