I live here in the Coos Bay/North Bend area so perhaps i'm a bit biased, but i think we have the prettiest beaches around. If you do visit this area, here are a few of the things i love.
My favorite Sunday trip is taking the dogs to Bastendorff Beach and then picking up some crab or fresh fish on the way home at Fishermen's Wharf, its at the boat basin on Dock D in Charleston.
I prefer Bastendorff to some of the other beaches when i have the dogs as its not very crowded and there's lots of room for them to run. Shore Acres is where most of the tourists like to go, but they don't allow dogs so i rarely go there. Everynow and then when i'm headed to the beach and the tide is low, i'll drive a little further to Cape Arago Beach. Its stunning and i've never seen more than 2 people out there at a time. Its a very small beach and i'm told good for tidepooling, (i don't do that myself). You just drive to the end of Cape Arago Loop and hike down, and you'll understand why i recommend it.
i love Fishermen's Wharf, they almost always have fresh crab, they cook it everyday or you can pick your own and they'll cook and clean it for you right there. Chuck's Seafood is usually the place where tourists go as its the first place you see, but for crab, you have to go to Fishermen's Wharf; its usually a little cheaper, fresher, and they almost never run out. Chuck's Seafood is good too, especially for oysters; but for crab, it has to be Fishermen's Wharf.
