Experiment with beer

With such a wide array of unique, local and delicious beer, don't order your mass produced standard. Branch out and try a local brew. If you are intimidated by the options (with names such as Ropewalk, Free-Range Red, and Desolation), ask your server or bartender for a description or recommendations. Portlanders talk about their beer with the descriptiveness typically reserved for wine, so a good server should be able to give you a clear picture of the beer list. Also, many places, particularly breweries and pubs, will offer a sample if you are undecided. (Note: The samples should be used as a tie breaker, not a free drink).
