The rain we get in western Oregon is easily made up for by our beautiful, lush, and mild summers. However, we do get ample rain during the fall, winter, and spring - and even an occasional shower in the summer. A popular adage is "Portlanders get wet," but as a native Oregonian, the truth is that Oregonians know how to stay dry without becoming housebound. A light rain jacket and/or compact umbrella will easily fit into a tote or backpack and will ensure that you stay comfortable no matter the weather. If you will be visiting Portland during the wet season, also bring waterproof shoes if you have them. And don't be afraid to roll up the bottom of your jeans while walking on wet pavement - the jeans will soak up the moisture and leave you wet all day.
