While waiting in line for a table at the new brew house in La Grande, OR ( I heard from a friend it was worth stopping for) I peeked across the street to see a very well lit display. I crossed the street to investigate and was pleased to find some interesting art in Eastern Oregon. I have been use to the various cowboy, western, native american cultural art here for years, but outside of EOU's gallery I had not seen a more contemporary exposure downtown.
I entered in and saw that the work displayed was work by "Waypoint Studio" a artists collective in La Grande. The studio was involved in the creation of the gallery along with a web design company called Cold Coffee Media. I thought to myself "wait...I am in La Grande riight?"
I met the staff and viewed all the work, listened to great music, discussed the beer next door, and i signed their guestbook. I am picked up a piece but not this time... I plan on going back.

It has always astonished me how many incredibly talented artists hide out in the blue mountains, the Grande Ronde valley, the Elkhorns, and all of the other beautiful geographical regions not to be missed in Eastern Oregon.
There is a great little gallery that has recently opened in La Grande. Satellite Gallery brings a wide variety of fine artists, both local and regional to the public eye. Along side feature shows with Eastern Oregon University art students and faculty it packs a punch every time we walk in the door.
Pull of of 84 on your way to Boise and check out La Grande.
