Terrible

We decided to splurge and spend a romantic weekend at the Inn in the Roosevelt Suite. It was anything but. We could hear every single word the people in the next room were saying – there was a good 2” gap at the bottom of the door that connected between the two rooms. It was impossible to regulate the heating system between frigid and sweltering. To top it off, each window had a sign on it saying it shouldn’t be opened, lest the windows fall out! I know it’s a historic building, but c’mon! Sunday morning the housekeeper opened up our room and started cleaning before we checked out. We were sitting downstairs having our breakfast while people were touring the inn – and presumably our room with all our belongings lying around. After we had paid our bill we saw the owner and decided to tell him about the issues we had. He was very gracious and offered to comp the bill. They claimed at the time that they couldn’t run the credit through that morning and would do so after we left. Unfortunately, they never credited our account, even after repeated attempts to contact the Inn (they never returned our calls). I can see why they ask for donations on their website – why would anyone stay there twice?

Watch out for this place. Reservations are meaningless.

Several weeks ago I booked my wedding night at the View Point Inn through their website's online reservations system. I checked the availability for the night and found that the rooms where available. I booked their best room for our wedding night.

I received an email from their system that confirmed our reservation. The subject line was "Reservation Request Dated XX/XX/200X". The email listed my name, the room requested, number of guest, the dates we where to be staying. Looks like a confirmation if I have ever seen one. Great, I now have a room for our wedding night. Nothing to worry about. Plans all in place.

Well, not exactly. Luckily , a few weeks later, my fiancee called the Inn to arrange for a bottle of wine to be in our room for our arrival. She was told that the Inn was now booked for a wedding that weekend and their was no availability. We were a more than a bit confused since several weeks earlier, we had booked the room and received a confirmation. The Inn keeper was very unapologetic and very uncaring toward my fiancee over the incident. The Inn keep quickly hung up on her.

Had my fiancee not called we would have showed up at the Inn on our wedding night expecting a room to only be turned away.

This appears to me that the inn received a request for a more lucrative wedding and booked out the entire inn regardless of prior reservations. So be aware that a reservation may not be honored by the inn.

I did notice their website has this statement on it:

"Saving the View Point Inn
We need your help preserving this Historic Building
Keeping our Doors open to the Public
Keeping the Dream Alive
Please donate as much as you can
Please help"

This might explain why our experience was what it was. My advice is to avoid this establishment.
