Drift Creek Falls Hike

Drift_creek_falls_small

Three mile round trip hike down to Drift Creek Falls (400 feet elevation gain on the way back up). The trail switchbacks through a 50-year old second-growth forest. Must cross a suspension bridge (sways slightly when a lot of people are crossing at the same time) to get to Drift Creek. Or just look 100 feet down from the bridge to see the creek bottom and the 75-foot waterfall. Very popular trail for families n the summer.

The trailhead is off Forest Road 17 east of Lincoln City from State highway 18 at Rose Lodge. Turn south onto Bear Creek road (which becomes F.R 17) and follow signs about 9 miles. Alternatly, from U.S 101 at the south end of Lincoln City, turn east onto Drift Creek Road., then south onto S. Drift Creek Rd. Turn east onto F.R. 17 and continue for 10 miles.

$5 park permit per vechicle or you'll need an NW Forest Pass. For more information, contact Hebo Ranger District (503)392-3161.

The Drift Creek Falls Trail Magic Bridge

Drift Creek Falls Trail
Lincoln City, Oregon A moderate 3-mile round-trip hiking trail descends a few hundred feet through the lush forest of the Coast Range just east of Lincoln City. It takes you over a spectacular 240-foot suspension bridge (the longest in Oregon) that hovers 100 feet above Drift Creek. From there you have an incredible view of the cascading 80-foot Drift Creek Falls. My kids loved it and thought the bridge was straight out of an Indiana Jones Movie and marveled at the water falls and how it fed the verdant forest. Birds swooped right over hour heads as we crossed the bridge. Just long enough for some decent exercise and teachable nature moments with no boredom factor involved.

You’ll need a $5 Northwest Forest Pass, which can be purchased at http://www.fs.fed.us/r6/passespermits/index.shtml
