This great place tucked down the AK-1 in Anchorage is a fantastic place to take the kids or simply go to catch glimpses of the wildlife native to Alaska. Many of the animals housed here are almost extinct and of course not in their natural setting, but it's encouraging to know that they are working hard so they may be reintroduced into the wild in the future. This is a non profit facility that opened to the public in 1993 and is completely dependent on donations and admissions fees. It is located on 160 acres at the Southern edged of Turnagain Arm and the entrance to Portage Valley. Animals include: Griizzly, brown and black bears, Rocky Mountain Elk, Sitka black tailed deer, caribou, musk oxen, foxes, bald eagles, and more. A great stop in your Alaskan tour!
