Fair trade & ultra-modern style in Portland (curvy women welcome, too!)

I only wear my IDOM skirts and blouses on days when I want to be guaranteed multiple compliments!

It is so rare to find modern style for us curvier and/or more mature women, and even more so to find unique designs using gorgeous fabrics and fair-trade practices. Owner & designer Modi Soondarotok’s aesthetic is at once playful, modern, and elegant. I love the simple lines and rich colors of the hand-loomed silks and cottons, which together create a very distinct and sophisticated look.

Some of the pieces can be a bit high-end for my normally budget-minded wallet, but are well worth it considering the quality of design and craftsmanship. I go back to the same pieces over and over, while my other clearance rack & bargain basement finds stay unworn in the back of my closet. Plus, each of Modi’s pieces can be worn separately (nothing is too matchy-match), and they all pair very well with more inexpensive tops, bottoms and accessories. I like to mix up the high and low-end pieces for a unique look and to extend the options. The dresses and skirts are all very versatile, from the office to the park, or to a fancy dinner, cocktail party or wedding. Plus, there are always some cute gift ideas and even a few toys for the kiddoes.

Whenever I get to visit Portland, I never miss a trip to IDOM. Stop in next time your on Alberta Street and say, “Hello.” You’ll be SO glad you did!
