Have you tried the section of the Historic Columbia River Highway State Trail between Cascade Locks and Bonneville Dam? This five-mile section of the Highway has been restored for hiking and biking only (no motor vehicles). The gentle grades and paved surface make it great for biking, walking, strollers or wheelchairs (with the exception of the stairway just west of Eagle Creek). Much of the Trail has a full canopy of trees, with ferns along the edges of the trail. Parking is available at Exit 40 (Toothrock Trailhead is south of Interstate 84), Eagle Creek and under the Bridge of the Gods in Cascade Locks.
Recently added are interpretive signs that discuss the origin of Sheridian State Park, the mural on the abutment to the Bridge of the Gods and other interesting locations.
