If you're looking for hearty, authentic German fare, head to Gustav's (Clackamas or Tigard) or Rheinlander (Sandy Blvd.). I've loved this place for years and recently returned from a vacation in Germany. As I ate the wonderful food there, I couldn't help but think, "This is just like Gustav's!" If they had a location along the river downtown, it would be just like sitting on a deck overlooking the Rhine! Try the sausage sampler platter (the weisswurst is the best), braised red cabbage, warm potato salad & sauerkraut, of course! I usually veer toward the sausage, but have also tried the schnitzels, rotisserie meats, and reuben. All are wonderful. If you saved room for dessert even after trying the pesto fondue, then try the apple streudel (again, just like I had in Germany, minus the Rhine). Great for small-medium families. Great beer & wine selection + full bar.
