This place is a true classic - "they don't make them like this any more". I've been coming to this bar for years and years - I actually lived in the apartments above it for some time.
While there's no pretension, and everyone of all stripes is welcome, it's important to know that this is a no BS bar - the bartenders here are wonderful, and wonderfully strict. Be as loony as you want, but cause any trouble and find yourself another place to get your drink on.
Eclectic juke, pool, video crack, a comfortable classic bar, strong drinks (if you're nice!), and a mellow atmosphere. I'm not a particularly gregarious person, and I often end up in serendipitous conversation with folks that start out as strangers but, being regulars like me, end up anonymous friends.
If you're lucky enough to be able to drink during the day, it's especially comfortable between lunch and happy hour. Smoking is allowed (until the ban hits) but somehow the place is never overly smoggy. You can get food from the next door grill from lunch-ish til 2-ish. Good French Dip. Sometimes good, sometimes scary salads.
I want to come back to the bartenders: Jazz, Judy, James, Matt... they're all super cool, and they make this place a 5 despite slightly high prices. Worth the price plus a tip.

This is the place to group up prior to attending a game at PGE Park. Have an icy pint here at happy hour prices before standing in line for ball park prices.
