Thatch has all the best of tiki ephemera, and none of the cheezy, plastic, rip-off versions. I didn't know tiki back in the day, but Thatch is what I dream that it was. I love how a space that might have been an H&R Block office was transformed into an island hut, complete with rattan walls, bamboo beams and thatch roof. The authentic drinks (and the staff's original recipes), the colored puffer-fish lights and soothing island-lounge sounds make me feel like I am on vacation. The five dollar mai-tais during happy hour(Tues-Sat 5:00-6:30) are delicious and dangerous. Snacks are tasty, but a little more variety and a few more cheap options would make it perfect. Their stiff island cocktails need some hearty food to balance things out. I guess if it was perfect then I would be there far too often. Besides the tasty mai tai, I recommend the chi-chi (served in a coconut cup) and the fog cutter (super strong!). I love this place but maybe you should just forget that I told you about it because I want this oasis all for myself. So, I hope I don't see you there.
