Pre's Trail
Pre's Trail has a solid drainage base with a nice topping of bark. Four miles of trail are in Eugene with another mile or so in Springfield's East Gate Woodlands. The trail is adjacent to a 12 mile asphalt bike path that also makes for great running, with five pedestrian bridges over the Willamette. An endless combination of loops and distances can meet any runner's needs. Park in Alton Baker Park, or at the Campbell Senior Center, or at the Valley River Center. Interpretive signs with trail maps are on either end of each of the bridges as well as in Alton Baker Park. A variety of runs take place in the park. See Goodrace.com or EclecticEdgeRacing.com.

for Runners--Pre's Trail
If you're a runner and in Eugene/Springfield, you must run the PreTrail! It is really fabulous, you can run 3-5 miles and will barely notice you're in Oregon's 2nd largest metro area. You're running thru hazelnut orchards, along the river and mill race, a pond on soft trails. If you ever want to run a very fun 5 K race on part of Pre's Trail, run the Steep Hill Chase ($20) in mid-June (check www.goodrace.com, since it's a fundraiser for Special Olympics). It's fun, fast, well-organized!
