Look for my name on the wall

Homestyle steakhouse that will make you wish you where a cowboy. This establishment is ready for large groups but it will make sure to take care of you on a small date. I would say that the drive away from the University is worth it!

Pork Rib Perfection

Li'l Abner's is perhaps one of the most out-of-the-way restaurants in all of Tucson, but it's well worth the drive. My first visit was on a Saturday night, on the recommendation of a friend. I sat outside with my fiance and enjoyed the cool weather and the live bluegrass music.

I believe ribs are the greatest test of any barbecue joint, so I placed my order for a half-rack of pork ribs, which came with a host of sides. Texas toast, ranch beans and a baked potato, plus a small salad. The beans were great, but the rest was pretty average for a barbecue place. But hey, who drives all the way to Lil Abner's to enjoy a side salad? I awaited my ribs, which were being prepared on the open-air outdoor grill on the outside patio.

When they arrived, they were perfection -- tender, with a satisfyingly crisp outer layer. I could taste the smoke in every bite, and I was loving it. It's literally finger-licking good.

When I was down to the last few ribs (completely ignoring the small dish of BBQ sauce on my plate -- it didn't need it), I got quite a surprise. My waitress showed up with another plate of pork ribs! She said the chef wasn't quite satisfied that my ribs were as perfect as they could be, so they sent me another plate, on the house!

I was stuffed at that point, but between me and my fiance, we split up the new ribs and polished them off. They were, as promised, even better than the firsts (no small feat!).

The bill was a good price for two people, especially considering the quality of the meat and the care put into preparing it. Stop by any night for what's quite possibly the best ribs you'll ever eat, but I recommend weekends, when you can enjoy live bluegrass while you dine.
