Good burgers, flip service, old world experience. The milkshakes are great. Prices are not so great.

This place will really take you back to a simpler time. Menu is basically burgers, fries and shakes. They are the thin 50's style burgers, with crinkle fries. I also love the friendly staff. Get there early for lunch as the place gets packed for the downtown lunch hour. They are only open M-F for lunch.

A bustling 2-floor diner in the middle of Downtown Portland, the Red Coach has a simple-as-can be one-page menu, fast, classic service and atmosphere that I doubt has changed much in the 60+ years it has been open. I think most folks probably opt for the first, main item on the menu: Carl's Special - a cheeseburger, fries and a drink. The malts are also awesome classics.
It's not a huge place, so there can be a wait during lunch rush. The high-backed booths and the upstairs classic diner counter make any wait worth it, though.
