A Hidden Jewel

Like many of the nations best restaurants, hidden on a corner of Marine drive in Astoria is a "foodies" gem. We experienced a friendly, well informed staff as we arrived to a packed house for our reservation last Friday evening. The feeling of the restaurant is one of a European cafe. The menu is lovely and we found the server very passionate about the emphasis on fresh natural and organic wild and local ingredients. Anticipating, perhaps a very au natural, bland dinner, we were blown away with every course. The mere house salad was an explosion of beautiful field greens with a rolled goat cheese fondant tossed in a dressing that was over the top. My uncurred bacon wrapped organic beef tenderloin with a porcini mushroom glaze (we were told the chef picks his own mushrooms for quality control) was not only the best meal of our trip to the coast, but I believe the best food I have ever eaten. My husband had the manilla clams linguini which he did not speak through the entire beautiful dish and upon completion said only one word, "perfection". A unique lavender creme brule to close our evening and a taste of the server recommended Merryvale Muscat we were in shock. We thought we dinned well in Astoria before coming to Clemente's which far surpassed every other Astoria restaurant and many of our staples in Portland. Clemente's was on another level and we are so fortunate to have looked off the beaten path. I recommend making a reservation here before the word gets out and available tables become weeks out.

Fresh seafood in modest premises

P8300057_small

You will hardly find Clemente's in a restaurant guide. It is a small and simple restaurant just at busy Marine Drive. If you don't want to celebrate an elegant meal but just are hungry and want to have fresh and tasty seafood Clemente's is the right place. You will easily find a parking lot at Marine Drive, you can walk after your lunch along Columbia River, or you can hop on the Riverfront Trolley (there's a stop just opposite Clemente's).
