From Portland, drive east on I-84 to the Bridal Veil exit (#28). Drive east on the Historic Highway 5.1 miles to a small parking lot on the left, just before the Oneonta Gorge. From the east, exit the freeway at the Dodson exit and drive westward on the Historic Highway 2.9 miles to the trailhead.
The Oneonta Hiking trail is unsurpassed in beauty and scenery. The trail overlooks the Columbia River Gorge, and passes by a couple of awe-inspiring waterfalls before depositing you in front of Horsetail Falls. Highly recommended for adults, great for dogs too! I do not recommend this trail for children. It's also great to travel along the Historic Highway that runs parallel to I-84. It passes by several magnificent waterfalls (including Multnomah Falls) before the Oneonta trail head. Take the Historic Scenic Highway exit off of I-84 East, pass Multnomah Falls, trail head on your right after a few miles.
