If you are looking for non-traidtional "attraction" or shooping oportunity in Portland area, my favorite place is Uwajimaya in Beaverton. They carry Asian foods, gifts, Japanese books and even restaurant (I haven't tried it yet). It is a size of supermarket. If you like cooking Asian foods and recipe calls some unfamiliar ingredients, you can probably get anything here. Every time I visit, I overspend. Sometimes, I end up buying grocery and having them as dinner at a hotel room!! And buying Japanese books is an exciting thing (I can't do in Colorado!). One time, I visited Portland with my friend from France. I took him the major tourist spots in Portland. The time was limited so I really had to go to Uwajimaya before heading home in Colorado.... I was kind of hesitant to ask him to go to this place - he is here in the US. Why did he want to go somewhere Japanese?? But I was wrong. He had a blast here. He was intrigued by the selction of products and he felt that how much Asian influence Portland has been having. He still talks about it - how much fun he had,
