You don't even have to be able to read english to realize that Bloomsbury Books, 290 E. Main, Ashland, Oregon, is a special place. Oh, it's got the obligatory espresso machine, racks of these quirky things called 'books', a few overstuffed chairs here and there, a couple of magazine racks (heck, so far it could be a Borders); what set this place apart is that it also has conversation. Imagine, people talking with each other in a book store. Total strangers interacting. Stunning. Wonderful. Worth several return visits. And just in case you want to buy a trunkload of these things called 'books' but don't have a trunk to haul them home in, the store will ship. Also remember that Oregon does not charge a sales tax. Unless you have a muffin to go with the espresso, and then there is a town "food tax."
