Who would ever expect to find a 5-star restaurant in location named "Camp Sherman"? Well that's exactly what we discovered last summer when we visited central Oregon,
Camp Sherman is a delightful small "camper" type resort town -- that just happens to stock brie in the corner store ;-) They also have one of the best restaurants we experienced during our trip around Oregon,
Sorry, I don't remember the chef's name, but he spent his time at some well known locations -- and now is doing what he loves -- creating amazing dishes in a quiet little town located on the crystal clear Metolius River in central Oregon.
If you are going to be ANYWHERE near this location (Sisters, Bend) it is definitely worth the detour. In fact, this area is so beautiful, you should plan to spend a few days.
I had trout stuffed w/ fresh nuts & berries. My husband enjoyed a beautiful rib eye. For dessert, we enjoyed a variety of hand made ice creams, including my favorite -- black pepper!

The Kokanee never disappoints. It's our local favorite for special occasions and to take visitors - we look for opportunities to go. Because they are seasonal (closed for a few of the winter months, open mid-April thru Dec. at this time (5-3-07). Wonderful ambience, exquisite and fresh food, exceptional service - all tucked away in the beautiful Metolius River recreation area near Sisters and Black Butte Ranch, OR. Reservations are almost a must - and if you can, spend time exploring the area. There are several river trails to help build up your appetite!

Tucked away in rustic Camp Sherman, Kokanee Cafe is a little slice of culinary heaven in the mountains and forest. You would swear you're eating food in Portland but right outside is the Metolius River meandering by. Dishes change often and this restaurant is only open Spring - Fall, closing for the winter.
