Decent Dinner, Despite Extra Charges on our bill

We had a late dinner at Baked Alaska this past weekend. We hoped to sit in the bar, but there was no room for us, so we accepted a table in the dining room.

Our drink order was immediately taken, and arrived shortly thereafter - but it was incorrect. The person who brought our drinks (not our waitress) came back later and said she realized that she got our drinks wrong, and apologized.

We ordered dinner, which was very good, but perhaps a bit overpriced. When our bill arrived, we paid, and left. In the car I noticed that not only had we been charged for the two incorrect drinks, we'd also been charged for a drink that we didn't order OR consume.

I think I'd go back again - but sit in the bar. The food was good - but nothing spectacular for the price we paid.

Great Waterfront Dining

The rustic, timber-framed Baked Alaska Restaurant sits at the end of 12th Street, on the pier overlooking the Columbia River. During dinner we were able to see seals, marine birds, and watch the ever changing traffic on the river. On a clear day you can see the Hwy 101 Bridge spanning the Columbia from Oregon to Washington. Baked Alaska features regional cuisine of seafood, pasta, and steak, most lunch entrees are under $15.00, most dinner entrees under $25.00.

We highly recommend the Dungeness crab cakes, romaine heart Caesar salad, the house-made clam chowder, and the all natural New York steak. The wine list is extensive – the cabernet was very good (sorry, we didn’t write down the vineyard name). The fresh bread choices – wheat, sourdough, and foccasia – were all fantastic (if you like fresh from the oven, warm breads)!

During warmer weather, the deck is open for outside seating. Reservations are recommended on summer weekends. Reservations can be made by phone or through their online reservation form. For special receptions or celebrations, the Discovery Room holds up to 20 people; the Expedition Room up to 60. Both rooms have Columbia River views.

The Northern Lights Lounge, just off the restaurant, has wines, a great selection of draft beers, and features their signature cocktails. A lounge menu is available, or you can choose from the restaurant menu.
