My first visit to Portland.

A.

Food Fight Grocery

1217 SE Stark St
Portland, Oregon

Portland is the place for small, local business...and Food Fight tops my list. You say you don't want to food shop at Fred Meyer or even Whole Foods? Head over to Food Fight. If you want quality groceries at great prices, fresh produce and all the veggie options you could ever want...you'll be in heaven. EVERYTHING in the store is 100% vegan and taste tested. Chad and Emiko have been in business for years and you can be sure they will bend over backwards to give you a great shopping experience and fill your basket will all things healthy and tasty. Not veggie or vegan? Who cares. You can still find Organic produce and foods that can't be found anywhere else. Check out their Nacho "Cheese" pump, grab a loaf of Dave's Killer bread and try a Sweet Pea cupcake. You'll be returning again and again...

Powell's City of Books

Powell's City of Books is a book lover's paradise, the largest used and new bookstore in the world. Located in downtown Portland, Oregon and occupying an entire city block, the City stocks more than a million new and used books. Nine color coded rooms house over 3,500 different sections, offering something for every interest, including an incredible selection of out-of-print and hard-to-find titles.

Be sure to grab a map – the store takes up an entire city block and it’s easy to get lost among 1 million books.

Voodoo Doughnut

22 SW 3rd Ave
Portland, Oregon

My hubby and I stayed across the street at the Embassy. We only knew about this place by the 24hr block-long lines out the door. I saw the sign and looked it up on this website and woila! We were in line also. It is called Voodoo Doughnut because they make a dude-shaped doughnut. you know like a voodoo doll. other than that, it is just doughnuts that are weird. like a glazed with captain crunch on it and a glazed that is like 8"wide. but the taste just bland.. the show is in the big-size and weird toppings but i have had better. being a fat girl...i have had alot. was not impressed. waited in line 45mins. neighborhood gross with alot of homeless and wonderers. not afraid...i am from seattle, but there were alot of children in line getting afraid to stand in line in an alley in the dark by yelling homless, wonderer, partiers. i would not go back.

Backspace

115 NW 5th Ave
Portland, Oregon

So, yeah...it's for nerds. Computers with gaming. Got it. But the majority of people who go here just want a coffee and maybe a muffin. The staff is super friendly and the coffee is your standard Stumptown brew, but MAN it takes forever to get a drink made. An Americano should not take around 10 minutes to make. It just makes no sense. I've switched to Half And Half for my morning fix. And they've got Courier Coffee with is better. Oh, and the vgan menu is solid, but again, you are waiting and waiting. Tough for those with a timed lunch hour.

Doug Fir

830 E Burnside St
Portland, Oregon

The only thing good about this place is the atmosphere. Great people go here, but the food is bland and very traditional, with a limited menu. As for the service, pretty bad. Everytime I'm there, the service is slow and there are always plenty of servers, but they always seem too busy chatting with each other to notice your glass is empty, or you're ready to pay. The bathrooms are a TRIP! Be careful not to walk into the mirrored walls......lawsuit waiting to happen.
